An Egyptian souvenir locket, circa 1920s, the hinged gilt locket enamelled with a scene of the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza, the reverse decorated with blue and white enamel, stamped ‘800’, length 17mm. £100-£150
Provenance:
The locket was formerly the property of Edward William Thomas Fiander (1898-1982), from Lambeth. Fiander was the chief mechanical engineer in the 1920s to T.E.Lawrence (1888-1935) (’Lawrence of Arabia’) whilst he was in Egypt.
Thence by family descent.
There is general surface wear and to the gilding, the painted enamel scene is in good overall condition, with the reverse blue and white enamel with some minor wear and hairline cracks, gross weight 3.8gms.
