Four: Able Seaman V. V. Stainer, Royal Navy, who was taken Prisoner of War at the fall of Hong Kong, 25 December 1941

Victor Vulcan Stainer was born in Portsmouth on 31 May 1892 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 19 September 1908. Advanced Able Seaman on 4 June 1914, he served during the Great War in a variety of ships and shore based establishments, and was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 10 August 1925. Shore pensioned on 30 May 1931, he re-engaged on 28 September 1938, and saw further service during the Second World War, being taken prisoner of war at the Fall of Hong Kong on Christmas Day 1941.
