Fred Leese was born in Stafford in May 1892. He joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in August 1910, and advanced to Stoker Petty Officer in November 1918. Leese served with H.M.S. Carnarvon (cruiser), March 1912 - November 1917, during which time she served in the Battle of the Falklands, 8 December 1914.

Frank James Leach was born in Croydon, Surrey in July 1897. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in February 1915, and advanced to Able Seaman in May 1917. Leach served with H.M.S. Agamemnon (battleship), June 1915 - November 1917, during which time she participated in the Dardanelles Campaign. He was invalided out of service in November 1919.
