Three: Private Frederick Prior, Hampshire Regiment, a Kut-al-Amara survivor

1914-15 Star (4-2120 Pte. F. Prior. Hamps: R.); British War and Victory Medals (2120 Pte. F. Prior. Hamps. R.) mounted as worn, very fine (3) £200-£240

Frederick Prior hailed from Stockbridge, Hampshire, and entered the Asiatic theatre of war with the 4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment. He was captured at Kut-al-Amara and was one of fewer than 50 officers and men of the 1/4th Battalion that survived captivity. Some ‘forty odd’ officers and men of the regiment, the only survivors of those who passed into Turkish hands on the fall of Kut, were invited to a welcome reception at Winchester in February 1919. Sold with copied Medal Index Card and extracts fro the Hampshire Regimental Journal confirming Prior both as a prisoner and as a survivor.
