Afghanistan 1878-80, 2 clasps, Charasia, Kabul (1448 Qr. Mr. Sgt. J. Cunningham. 67th Foot.) minor edge bruise, otherwise nearly extremely fine £260-£300

James Cunningham was born in Manchester and enlisted into the 67th Regiment at Portsmouth on 9 September 1868, aged 20. He had risen to the rank of Sergeant by July 1875 and was promoted to Quarter-Master Sergeant on 11 June 1879, the regiment having been in Afghanistan since 1 April 1879. He was present at the battles of Charasia and Kabul, and returned with the regiment to Bangalore in November 1880. He re-engaged to complete 21 years at Bangalore on 7 January 1881, but was invalided to England the following year and discharged the service being found unfit for further service on 10 October 1882. Sold with copied discharge papers.
