Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, dated reverse, 1 clasp, Tel-El-Kebir (Capt: J. Ritchie, 2nd Bn. So: Lanc: Regt.) small official correction to battalion designation; Khedive’s Star 1882, unnamed as issued; Ottoman Empire, Order of the Medjidie, Fourth Class breast badge, silver, gold and enamels, reverse centre with plaque of Paris jeweller ‘Mon. James Ritchie was appointed Ensign, by purchase, in the South Lancashire Regiment, on 4 March 1869; Lieutenant, by purchase, 14 July 1869; Captain, 27 March 1877; Major, 13 May 1885. He served in the Egyptian War of 1882 with the Corps of Signallers, and was present at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir (Medal with Clasp, 4th Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star).
