John Richard Palmer was born on 20 June 1888 at Brixham, Devon. He commenced his naval service as Shipwright 2Cl., on 14 October 1913. His medals for service in the Great War were sent to H.M.S. Vivid. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in December 1928.
