Ernest Sydney Spencer Herbert Danvers was born in Islington, London, on 21 June 1877 and commenced his naval service as a Boy 2nd Class in 1893. He received his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in September 1915, issued to H.M.S. Africa. He was shore pensioned on 16 June 1917.
