Thomas Henry Murphy was born in Salford, Lancashire, and attested there for the Manchester Regiment. Transferring to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, he served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 3 August 1915, and was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 15 July 1916, on which date the Battalion was involved in an attack on Bazentin-le-Petit Wood. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
