Douglas Philip Capon Ledger was born on 27 August 1916 and attested for the Royal Artillery (Territorial Army) in May 1939. He served with them during the Second World War, and was taken Prisoner of War following the fall of Crete in June 1941. He escaped whilst on Crete but was re-captured owing to malaria, and was held for the rest of the War predominately at Stalag VIII B, being liberated on 21 April 1945.
