Harry Breakspeare was born in Oldham, Lancashire, and having emigrated to Australia attested for the Australian Imperial Force at Sydney, New South Wales, on 28 February 1915. He embarked with the 18th Battalion on 25 June 1915, and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front. He was killed in action on 31 August 1918, during the Battle of Mont-St. Quentin, and is buried in Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
