Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza (1852-1905), explorer of equatorial Africa and founder of the French settlement, later called Brazzaville, at Malebo Pool on the river Congo. This medal was ostensibly struck for the centenary celebrations in Gabon in 1950, and the visit by the Brazza to Libreville in August of that year. Illustration reduced
