Thomas Whittaker was born in Clayton-le-Moors, Accrington, Lancashire, and attested for the East Lancashire Regiment at Accrington. He served with the 11th (Accrington Pals) Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 1916, and was killed in action on 21 June 1916. He is buried in Bertrancourt Military Cemetery, Somme, France.
