YORKSHIRE, Doncaster, oval ivory (2), Ladies Stand, Erected 1858, backs named (No. 61, Leonard Thompson, Esq; No. 62, Leonard Thompson, Esq), both 50 x 37mm, 7.33g and 7.88g (W –; D & W –; cf. DNW 176, 284) [2]. About very fine, very rare; pierced for suspension, No. 62 with contemporary orange ribbon £300-£400

Leonard Thompson III (1806-78), of Sheriff Hutton Park, near Easingwold, and Alwalton, Huntingdonshire, Lord of the Manor of Strensall; descendant of Edward Thompson (c. 1639-1701), wine merchant of York, who acquired the Sheriff Hutton estate in 1683, and son of George Lowther Thompson, MP (1786-1841); married Mary Wentworth Fitzwilliam (1810-93), art collector and daughter of Lord Milton, 2 May 1831; succeeded to his father’s estates on Christmas Day 1841.
