The Treaty of Ghent end the so-called War of 1812 between Great Britain and the USA. Grand plans were drawn up to celebrate the centenary but the advent of World War I put paid to most of them. The organising committee however did acquire Sulgrave Manor in Northamptonshire, the ancestral home of George Washington
