National Art Competition, 1857, a bronze electrotype award by A. Vechte, bust of Queen Victoria left, surrounded by a continual scene of allegorical figures, named (Fanny M. Francis, 1864, Stage Xa), 145mm (E 1512; cf. Burt, The Medal 5, p.48-9; cf. DNW 48, 569). Very fine, scarce (£40-60)

Awarded in the annual National Competition of the students of all the art schools in the UK between 1857 and 1865, the medal is the highest prize for success in art given by the Science and Art Dept of the Committee of Council on Education
