Death of James Morison, 1840, a white metal medal by T.R. Pinches, bust right, rev. legend, edge THE GREAT MEDICAL REFORMER, 67mm (BHM 1964; Brettauer 791). Good very fine and scarce (£50-70)

Morison was a “great medical reformer,” but it was self-styled, his cures being based on the vegetable pills that he marketed. Born in Bognie, Aberdeenshire, he was at times a merchant in Riga, the West Indies and Bordeaux; he was to die of tuberculosis
