The coins in this and the following 35 lots were recovered from the wreck of the Dutch East Indiaman Hollandia, which sank off St Agnes in the Scilly Isles in the early hours of 13 July 1743, while on her maiden voyage from Texel to Batavia. They were retained at the time of their recovery from the vessel in 1971 by one of the financiers of Rex Cowan’s team of divers, and have not been offered publicly before
