Dalton, R., and Hamer, S.H., The Provincial Token-Coinage of the 18th Century [London, 1910-17], 5 vols, 567pp, illustrations in text (Manville 697) [5]. Publishers’ half-leather and boards by Earnshaw & Harrison, Halifax; bindings scuffed and spines shaky, internally fine and complete; vol. I with ALS from Richard Dalton to an unknown recipient, along with cartes de visite from S.H. Hamer (3), one taking the form of a Christmas postcard from S.H. Hamer “of the Longcase Clock Hospital”; vol. V with a newspaper cutting from the Halifax Courier & Gazette, 28 June 1930, detailing the funeral of Samuel Hamer and listing the names of the mourners and others present £150-£200

The ALS by Richard Dalton, from Park House, Cotham Park, Bristol, dated April 29 1910, reads “Dear Sir, Many thanks for Cheque 12/- for Parts I & II. I shall be sending Part II in the rough for you to kick off. I should think it will be about 20 parts for the complete work I think of starting Wales as a separate Vol. I have Anglesea nearly complete & should be able to issue that shortly. With kind regards, Yours Very Sincerely, R. Dalton”. Samuel Hamer died on Wednesday 18 June 1930; his funeral, held on 21 June at Harrison Road Congregational Church, Halifax and presided over by the Rev. E. Wardle, was attended by 65 people
