Roman Imperial Coinage, Carausius, Antoninianus, uncertain mint, imp c caravsivs p avg, radiate, cuirassed and draped bust right, rev. [p]rov[id]en avggg, figure standing left, holding object in left hand, altar (?) to left by feet, 3.21g (RIC –; S –). About very fine and unrecorded in the standard references, the reverse apparently unique £200-£260

The identification of the figure on the reverse is uncertain. Based on the legend reading one might expect to see the goddess Providentia holding a baton and cornucopia. However, the figure here appears masculine, while the object held in the left hand appears too bulky to be a baton, bearing closer resemblance to a club or large bag
