A French enamelled novelty vesta case, the rectangular case with hinged lid, embossed throughout with star detail, the lid enamelled with a scene of an Edwardian lady wearing a black dress and hat, with white stockings, riding a penny-farthing bicycle, followed behind by a gentleman in a brown suit on a similar cycle, signed ‘L’attrapera?’, the interior of the lid similarly enamelled with the same lady and gentleman on the ground after their cycles have crashed, the lady now in a compromising position displaying her underwear, signed ‘Patatras’, length 46mm. £240-£280

‘L’attrapera’ translates from French as ‘The chase’, while ‘Patatras’ translates as ‘Wham!’.
