A rare Shipping Federation Medal for Meritorious Service pair to Captain W. McLeod, Royal Naval Reserve

British War Medal 1914-20
(Lieut. W. MacLeod, R.N.R.); Shipping Federation Medal for Meritorious Service, 1st (1910) type (Capt. W. McLeod, 20th Feb 1917), 38mm., silver, pierced for suspension, very fine (2) £250-300

Captain William McLeod was Master of the Silverdale.

The Shipping Federation was founded in 1890 and was one of the earliest employer’s organisations. It would appear that the Federations Medals for Meritorious Service were first issued in 1910. (See ‘The Awards of the Shipping Federation, by John Wilson,
L.S.A.R.S. Journal 23, p.46 - 67 and also a letter, L.S.A.R.S. Journal 24, p.101.)
