Hazel, R.A.F.’; War Medal 1939-45; Royal Air Force L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., coinage bust (242991 F./Sgt., R.A.F.) the last with official correction, the first polished, about very fine, the remainder very fine or better (5) £180-220

Frederick Hugh Rees Hazel, who was born in February 1900, was allocated R.F.C. No. 242991 while employed in the Royal Naval Air Service. A senior Warrant Officer, R.A.F. by the eve of the Second World War, he was commissioned in June 1939 and appointed to the war substantive rank of Squadron Leader in June 1945. Hazel, who had been employed in the Technical Branch (Engineers), was placed on the Retired List in the same rank in July 1949, but was permitted to retain the rank of Wing Commander.
