William Pielow was born at Mountmellick, County Kildare and enlisted at the Curragh. He was killed in action the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916, whilst serving with the 1st Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He is buried at Hawthorn Ridge Cemetery No. 2, Auchonvillers, France.
