John Molineux was born in the Parish of Wednesfield, Stafford. A moulder by trade, he enlisted into the Lancers in 1893, aged 19 years 6 months, whilst already serving in the 4th (Militia) Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. In July 1896 he was given 72 hours hard labour by his commanding officer for refusing to escort a prisoner to the guard house and was again given 72 hours hard labour in April 1898. Molineux served in India from 13 September 1894 to 4 March 1898 and in South Africa from 5 March 1898 until 31 May 1902. He was present at the battle of Elandslaagte and the defence of Ladysmith. He was transferred to the Army Reserve in 1902 and subsequently joined the South African Constabulary. Sold with copied service papers and other research together with a photograph of the recipient in uniform wearing his two medals.
