Arthur Cryer was born at Otley, Yorkshire, and attested at Bradford for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on 3 November 1890. He was discharged after the termination of his engagement in November 1902, having served in Burma 1891-92, the Relief of Chitral 1895, and in the Boer War. He re-enlisted at Keighley on 3 September 1914 and served in France 1915-16. He was finally discharged, no longer physically fit for war service, on 8 June 1916, aged 46 years 11 months. Sold with two certificates of discharge and character certificate which confirm the first four medals and clasps.
