Gds.) contemporary engraved naming; Legion of Honour, Knight’s breast badge, silver, gold and enamels, chips to white enamel and cross missing from orb of crown; Order of the Medjidie, 5th class breast badge, silver, gold and enamel; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, contemporary tailor’s copy by ‘J.B.’, together with original commission documents as Ensign & Lieutenant and Lieutenant & Captain, and Turkish certificate for the Medjidie, contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine or better (4) £500-600
Henry Armytage was commissioned as Ensign & Lieutenant, 30 July 1847; Lieutenant & Captain, 13 December 1853; Brevet Major, 12 December 1854; Captain & Lieutenant-Colonel, 26 October 1858. He served in the Eastern Campaign of 1854, including the battles of Alma, Balaklava, and Inkermann, and the siege of Sebastopol (Medal and clasps, Knight of the Legion of Honour, and 5th class Medjidie).
