Driver J. White, Australian Volunteer Hospital, entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 18 November 1914.

The Australian Volunteer Hospital, manned by Australian doctors, nurses and medical students who were based in England, and set up in record time after the outbreak of hostilities, ‘arrived’ in France on 29 August 1914. For most of the war it was based at Wimereux; on 1 July 1916 it was designated the ‘32nd Stationary Hospital’ (See ‘1914 Stars to Australians: The Australian Voluntary Hospital’, by John Edkin,
O.M.R.S. Journal Vol. 18, p.110-113.)
