P. Pell-Ilderton entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 1 November 1914 as a Lance Corporal in the 1/16th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (Queen’s Westminster Rifles). He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion Manchester Regiment on 30 September 1915 and attained the rank of Lieutenant on 1 July 1917.
