Clifford Hardwicke Wale entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 4 November 1914 as a Private in the 9th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (Queen Victoria’s Rifles). He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles on 23 April 1915 and was killed on 20 January 1915. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
