Robert Alexander Smith was born in and enlisted at Glasgow. Serving with the 5th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 5 November 1914. He died of wounds, France / Flanders, on 28 July 1916. He was buried at Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-l’Abbe.
