John Haynes was born in Hulme, Manchester and residing in Leeds, he enlisted at Richmond, Yorkshire. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, he entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 5 October 1914. He died of wounds on 29 June 1915, aged 34 years. He was buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery. John was the husband of Ruth Haynes of Layerthorpe, York.
