H. J. Farquharson entered the France / Flanders theatre of war on 26 October 1914 as Private in the 1 / 28th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (Artist’s Rifles). He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion Norfolk Regiment on 1 January 1915. He died in Mesopotamia on 27 August 1916, aged 25 years and was buried in the Basra War Cemetery.
