Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 2nd issue, fixed suspension (K. 11419 J. H. G. Hamblen, L. Sto., H.M.S. Cardiff) about very fine £40-60

John Henry George Hamblen was born in Bournemouth in September 1889 and entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in May 1911. A Stoker 1st Class by the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914, which found him serving in the cruiser H.M.S. Minotaur, he remained in the same ship until coming ashore to Victory II in March 1918, and was consequently present in her at the battle of Jutland, when she flew the flag of Rear-Admiral Heath, Second Cruiser Squadron. Hamblen, who ended the War in torpedo boat destroyer No. 82, was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in July 1926.
