William Henry Colenutt was born at Newport on the Isle of Wight in March 1882 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in August 1898. A Petty Officer by the outbreak of hostilities in August 1914, which found him serving in the battleship H.M.S. Duncan, he afterwards removed to the Dido, in which cruiser he served from October 1915 until the end of the War. Colenutt, who was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in May 1915, was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in July 1920 and was discharged ashore in March 1922.

Ernest Albert Luck was born in Bromley, Kent in June 1883 and entered the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class in July 1901. A Stoker Petty Officer by the outbreak of hostilities, which found him serving in the destroyer H.M.S.
Cherwell, he transferred to the battle cruiser Indomitable in February 1915, immediately following the latter’s participation in the action of Dogger Bank. His other seagoing appointments during the War were in the cruisers Penelope and Latonia. Luck was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in August 1916 and was discharged ashore in June 1922.
