Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (F. P. Mathew, 24th Foot) very fine £400-450

Frederick Percival Mathew was born in Lambeth, London. By occupation, a clerk, he entered the Army in 1847, aged 23 years. He served a total of nine years in India including service in the Punjab Campaign 1848-49, being present at the battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat. He was discharged on medical grounds at Chatham in 1858, suffering from ‘Amentia’ (subnormal mental developement). Sold with copied service papers and other research.
