Cecil Charles Smith was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment on the Western Front. Smith advanced to Lance Corporal and was killed in action on the Western Front, 27 May 1918.

Lance Corporal Smith is buried in Jonchery-Sur-Vesle British Cemetery, Marne, France.
