A.L.S. by the Earl of Clarendon to J.C. Herries. Datelined “Grosvenor Crescent 10 Feb/53” it advises him of Clarendon’s appointment as Foreign Secretary and discusses the prospects of Herries’ son, Edward, in diplomatic service. 10.9 x 17.8cm (double); together with two A.L.S. to Herries’ daughter on social matters, one from the Earl (1847), the other from the Countess (1850) [3]. First with two folds, trace of paper stuck to back, the others small, folded and contained in envelopes with wax seals and postmarks (£50-100)
