Covering letter by George Canning, Foreign Secretary, datelined “Foreign Office July 16 1824” and written in the third person to a Mr. Harrison, conveying a letter he had received from Mr. George White, 18.6 x 23.4cm (double); together with the letter referred to written regarding White’s recent interview with Mr. Herries, his claims for an allowance and his feelings that his son’s appointment as a messenger to Lord Liverpool might adversely affect him. 18.7 x 22.5cm (double), with cracked wax seal and red postal mark 10 f noon 13 july 1824 [2]. Both with folds, second torn by postmark, otherwise clean (£100-120)
George Canning (1770-1827), Foreign Minister 1807-9 and 1822-7, served as Prime Minister from 12 April 1827 until his death on 8 August
