Letter to King George IV from William Wellesley-Pole, Master of the Royal Mint, date-lined "Royal Mint 4th Sep. 1820.” Seeks royal approval of the draught design for the new half-crown piece, prepared following the King's accession on 29 January 1820. A later secretarial copy of the original, on paper watermarked ‘1826,’ 20 x 31.8cm (double). Several folds and small tear at top, clean (£200-300)

It is thought likely that this copy was made at Herries' request at the time of the accession of William IV in 1830.

The original letter was from William Wellesley-Pole (1763-1845), Master of the Royal Mint, 1814-23
