Letter to King George III from William Chetwynd, Master of the Royal Mint, date-lined "Mint Office 16 Jany 1761.” Seeks royal approval of draught designs for new gold and silver coins, prepared following the King's accession on 25 October 1760. A later secretarial copy of the original, on paper watermarked ‘1826,’ 19.8 x 31.8cm (double). Several folds and a small tear, clean and of interesting content (£300-400)

This submission proposed a gold issue of five pounds, forty, twenty, ten and five shillings and a silver issue of crowns, halfcrowns, shillings, sixpences and the Maundy denominations. It is thought likely that this copy was made at Herries' request at the time of the accession of William IV in 1830.

The original letter was from William Richard Chetwynd, 3rd Viscount (1684-1770), Master of the Royal Mint, 1745-69
