A scarce ‘double issue’ British War Medal pair awarded to Lieutenant H. S. Hillier, Northumberland Hussars and City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders)

British War Medal 1914-20 (2) (Lieut. H. S. Hillier.; 1811 Pte. H. S. Hillier. C. of Lond. Yeo.) edge nicks, good very fine (2) £100-£140

Harold Sichel Hillier attested for the City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders) and served with them during the Great War in the Egyptian theatre of War from 7 May 1915. He was discharged to a Commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Northumberland Hussars on 29 July 1916, and served with his new unit on the Western Front as a Lieutenant from 16 July 1918.

Note: The recipient has two Medal Index Cards, showing that he was issued a 1914-15 Star trio to the City of London Yeomanry (as a Private on all three medals); and a British War and Victory Medal pair to the Northumberland Hussars (as a Lieutenant on both).
