Shea Spring was born in Palmerston North, New Zealand in 1929, and attested for the Royal New Zealand Artillery at Masterton on 9 February 1952. Based in Waiouau, New Zealand, he served as a Gunner from 26 February 1951 until 13 June 1951. He served overseas from 14 June 1951 to 18 December 1952 and was promoted Lance Bombardier on 1 September 1952. He was posted back to New Zealand where he continued to serve until 25 March 1953, at which time he was allowed his discharge on the application of his previous employer Mr W. D. Scott for his services as a plumber due to the lack of men of this trade in the district. He died in 2006 and is buried in Mangaoranga Cemetery, Eketahuna, New Zealand.
