James Wallace was born in Barony, Lanarkshire and attested for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at Glasgow, serving with them during the Great War on the Western Front. He initially served with the 2nd Battalion before transferring to the 10th (Service) Battalion and then returning to the 2nd Battalion with which he was killed in action in France on 29 September 1918. He is buried in Domino British Cemetery, Epehy, France.
