India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Pegu (Lieut. Leverton Donaldson. Bengal Enginrs.) contained in a contemporary glazed oval leather display case, virtually mint state £2,000-£2,600

Lieutenant Leverton Donaldson, Bengal Engineers, was killed in action in the storming of the White House Stockade, near Rangoon, on 12 April 1852.

During his march to capture the great Shwedagon Pagoda at Rangoon on 12 April 1852, General Godwin first had to deal with a work called the White House Stockade on his right flank. This he did in two columns supporting a storming party composed of British infantry and some Madras Sappers under Rundall, accompanied by Major Fraser as Chief Engineer. The party came under such heavy fire that the Sappers had to ground their ladders and return it; then, advancing with great bravery, they raised the ladders against the stockade in spite of heavy losses. Three of the Sappers were seen to lift a ladder when four others had already been shot down in the attempt. Here Donaldson was mortally, and Trevor seriously, wounded. The stockade was soon captured, and Godwin marching on, took the Shwedagon Pagoda with a rush.
