Wilbraham Taylor was born in Gibraltar in 1875, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel M. B. W. Taylor, Rifle Brigade, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 7th Dragoon Guards on 6 June 1896. He was seconded for service with the Army Service Corps on 2 April 1899, and served with them in South Africa during the Boer War, being promoted Captain on 1 January 1901. He died on 2 March 1924.
