An Order of St John group of eight awarded to Major J. A. Reid, Royal Army Medical Corps

The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Officer‘s (Brother’s) breast badge, silver and enamel, with heraldic beasts in angles; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Burma Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; Efficiency Decoration, G.VI.R., 2nd issue, silver and silver-gilt, reverse officially dated ‘1950’, with integral top ‘Territorial’ riband bar, in case of issue; St. John Service Medal, straight bar suspension (42835. D/Sgn. J. A. Reid. Cornwall. S.J.A.B. 1946.) good very fine (8) £120-£160

James Alexander Reid was born in Scotland on 1 May 1904. After completing his Medical studies, he took up an appointment in Penzance, Cornwall, and became a long serving Divisional Surgeon to the St John Ambulance Brigade. During the Second World War he served for six years in the Royal Army Medical Corps and remaining in the Territorial Army post-hostilities was awarded his Efficiency Decoration in 1950 (London Gazette 21 April 1950). He died in Penzance in 1978.
