George Redvers Driver was born in Morpeth, Northumberland on 24 May 1924, and served during the Second World War with the 1st Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in North West Europe from 1944. By 1947 he had risen to the rank of Sergeant, transferring to the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in 1948. At some point between 1948 and 1952, he again transferred to the 1st Battalion Durham Light Infantry, serving with this battalion in Korea. Returning home in late 1953, he rejoined the 1st King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, serving with them in Cyprus in 1956. Promoted Colour Sergeant in May 1957, he left the Army c.1962.
