Sidney E. Russett was born in Bristol and served during the Great War in the Royal Flying Corps.

The British Nun Club Heroes Trophy was instituted in 1921 as a memorial to those Club members who had died during the Great War. Individual winners of the trophy are also presented with the above plaque.
