John Harold Hill served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment in the French theatre of war from, 13 August 1914. The Battalion served as part of the 62nd Brigade, 21st Division on the Somme, July - October 1916. Hill advanced to Sergeant, and was discharged 25 February 1919 (entitled to Silver War Badge).
